Canada has acquired 10 medium range radar units for $130 million. The MMR units are portable and will be used to identify, track and project in real time the trajectory of planes, drones, artillery, mortars, rockets or anything else that is in its 470 km range using S-Band. This is the radar used in the Israeli iron dome system.

The only downside to this very effective radar system is that it was not built by a NATO alley, so it cannot be linked directly into NATO shared systems.
Rheinmetall Canada who is responsible for the system will look into any changes if Canada finds a need to link this radar into a broader system. For its present use, as a guidance system for artillery, it is the best system on the market.
