K 130 corvette could make an excellent replacement for our 12 Kingston coastal patrol ships that are scheduled for retirement. The K 130 as a corvette is a much more capable ship and could fill some of the roles of a light frigate which we will need until we get our Type 26 frigates built. The K130 would be a huge step up in the role of defending and enforcing in our coastal waters and in anti-smuggling interdiction in South America.
Germany is building new updated K 130’s and this ship design has proven itself. It has many built in stealth features and hides its stack heat signature by expelling exhaust at the water line. It uses 2 drones (similar to those already being used by Canada) for increased situational awareness. Has a helicopter deck and a hanger for the drones.
Germany is building updated new K 130’s and is looking for a NATO ally to purchase its first batch of 5 lightly used corvettes as they are just 10 years old. Canada could probably pick them up for the cost of a couple barrels of maple syrup. We need to get on with building our Type 26 frigates and let us not forget about that icebreaker that the Government needs to bite the bullet on and get Davies shipyard started on it.
