Canada to Procure New Military Pistols

Canada has finally worn out all of its Second World War era pistols and is looking for a replacement sometime starting in mid 2022. This sidearm replacement is going through the usual government process. Which is to say, procurement started in 2011 and more than ten years on, we still do not know for sure how many we need. The original number started at 9,000 and has grown to maybe, say oh…  could be, might be– 25,000. After all, it’s only been 10 years. This is just another typical Canadian procurement.

With so many departments working on a simple procurement such as this, why could they not at least come up with a purchase quantity. Why they could not figure out at the beginning that the military police, RCAF and the navy would also require their sidearms replaced is beyond me.

Canada has a problem with its procurement process. After many tries to streamline the process, it is still broken. Too many departments, making too many demands, serving too many special interests and political agendas.
Let’s have less government and more military decisions in procurement.
